Generation 4 Display compatibility – 4640 Universal Display and 4600 CommandCenter™ Display

The Gen 4 Premium activation and Precision Ag Core subscription leverage the display’s ease of use to improve operational productivity.

 

The Gen 4 Premium activation is only compatible with the John Deere 4600 CommandCenter™ display; is machine specific, and stays with the machine throughout its life. The 4640 Universal Display is compatible with the Precision Ag Core subscription; subscriptions are available for 1-year or 5-year durations.

 

Gen 4 Displays are compatible with one AEF-certified ISOBUS implement; all AEF-certified ISOBUS implements with Task Controller Section Control (TC-SC) functionality and AEF certification for TC-SC: sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, planters, seeders, manure applicators, etc. For third-party farm management information system (FMIS) compatibility, reference the John Deere Operations Center.

John Deere Planters

 

The SeedStar 2 configuration above is available only on factory-installed model year 2011 and newer planters, and may be field-installed on model year 2009 and 2010 planters. Green PM/PA controllers (factory-installed on model year 2009 and 2010 planters) are not supported with a Gen 4 Display.

 

John Deere Dealers: Service ADVISOR™ is needed to update SeedStar 2, XP, and 3HP software.

 

Documentation for planters without clutches are not supported on Gen 4 Displays.

 

John Deere Air Seeders

 

The C850 Air Cart requires a 4600 CommandCenter Display or a 4640 Universal Display. GreenStar 3 (GS3) 2630 monitors are not supported.

 

StarFire Receivers

 

StarFire Receivers can be updated in the following ways:

  • Gen 4 Display USB port
  • Remote software updates application (in ISOBUS VT app)
  • GreenStar Display
  • Service ADVISOR (John Deere dealers only)
  • Receiver USB port (available only for StarFire 6000)

Additionally, StarFire iTC Receivers are no longer supported with software update 2017-1 and newer software.

 

John Deere Operations Center

 

Activations/subscriptions required for Wireless Data Transfer (WDT):

  • CommandCenter Premium activation or core subscription are required to wirelessly transfer files.
  • JDLink™ Ultimate + WDT + Remote Display Access (RDA) or JDLink Connect subscription

To use RDA on a Gen 4 CommandCenter with GS3 2630 Display connected in the same machine, GS3 2630 software version 3.22.1095 (software update 2014-1) or higher is required (4600 CommandCenter and 4640 Universal Display only).

 

GreenStar Rate Controller and GreenStar Rate Controller Dry

 

GreenStar Rate Controller Dry is supported with the 4600 CommandCenter starting with software update 2017-2. The 4600 CommandCenter and 4640 Universal Display support documentation and section control of up to five GreenStar Rate Controllers.

 

To update the GreenStar Rate Controller and GreenStar Rate Controller Dry, utilize Gen 4 Display USB port or use a GreenStar 2 or 3 display. John Deere dealers can also utilize Service ADVISOR.

 

John Deere Rate Controller 2000

 

The 4600 CommandCenter and 4640 Universal Display support documentation of up to four operations from the John Deere Rate Controller 2000. It is important to note that John Deere Rate Controller 2000 can control up to five operations and may be used for liquid or dry application.

 

John Deere Rate Controller 2000 needs to be the only ISO controller present when used with the 4600 CommandCenter. Implements equipped with controllers such as SeedStar on John Deere planters or TruSet on tillage equipment are not compatible to be used in conjunction with the Rate Controller 2000. Shared sections, which are commonly used during direct-inject applications are not supported at this time.

Implements without controllers

 

Implements without controllers can be documented as a stand-alone operation or with a GreenStar Rate Controller. Implements without controllers cannot be documented in conjunction with a John Deere Rate Controller 2000 or any other implement control units. Multiple implements without controllers cannot be documented together.

 

AutoTrac Universal 200 and AutoTrac Controller

 

AutoTrac Universal 200 and AutoTrac Controllers are for use with the 4640 Universal Display. The 4640 Universal Display is only compatible with tractors. Please see the AutoTrac Controller Sales Manual for exact model compatibility. These products are compatible with AutoTrac Contorller-Raven, AutoTrac Controller-Reichhardt®, and AutoTrac Controller-John Deere kits.

 

iGrade™ automated water management

 

iGrade compatibility with Gen 4 Displays has not been tested with third-party control software.

 

Wireless Data Server apps

 

When updating the SeedStar Mobile app with the latest software, a new name for the app, Connect Mobile, will appear in addition to any improvements to the app. Please note, Harvest Mobile is not compatible with the 4640 Universal Display at this time.

 

ISOBUS Implements

 

A software update performed by an authorized ISOBUS implement dealer may be required to obtain compatible software. ISOBUS Implements must be certified through the AEF Organization to be recognized by the Gen 4 CommandCenter. Visit www.aef-online.org for more information; visit www.aef-isobus-database.org for an active list of compatible implements.

 

ISOBUS implements with VT4 are now supported by Gen 4 Displays. Gen 4 Displays still support older VT versions (e.g., VT2 and VT3). If an implement is not loading after updating to Gen 4 software update 2017-2, it is recommended that the implement manufacturer be contacted to get a software version that is either VT3 or VT4.

 

Non-John Deere Precision Ag

Gen 4 Displays are not compatible with RS-232 communication at this time.

Gen 4 Displays are also not compatible with the DN345 Drawn Dry Spreader at this time.

 

NOTES:

CommandCenter Premium activation and the CommandCenter AutoTrac to Premium upgrade are not available with the John Deere 4100 CommandCenter or 4640 Universal Display.

 

CommandCenter Premium activation/Precision Ag Core subscription as-applied data is only compatible with the Operations Center. CommandCenter Premium activation is machine specific and cannot be transferred to a different machine. If not using WDT, a 4-GB USB is required to transfer data to and from the Gen 4 Display. Implement settings are display specific and cannot be imported or exported from the Gen 4 Display.

 

Created machine profile syncing with John Deere Operations Center is not yet available and cannot be deleted with 17-2 software.

 

4600 CommandCenter and 4640 Universal Display are not compatible with RS-232 functionality. Precision Ag applications, such as documentation and Section Control with a 4640, require GreenStar ready capability and a StarFire 3000 or StarFire 6000 Receiver. Third-party controllers and receivers are not compatible.

Increase efficiency with Wireless Data Transfer (WDT)

John Deere WDT helps producers save time, money, and increase productivity through telematics-enabled data transfer via JDLink™ Connect wireless telematics. Wirelessly transfer setup, prescription, and documentation files securely between office, mobile devices, and 4640 Universal Display or 4600 CommandCenter™ Display, eliminating the need for USB transfer. This increases producer uptime and productivity, reducing the risk of data loss, and enabling easy data sharing and more timely decision making.

 

Through the John Deere Operations Center, producers are in control and can easily share files with a John Deere dealer and other advisers.

 

Producers can send data wirelessly to the John Deere Operations Center; data is available to view in field analyzer after a field has been completed, new work has started, or a half hour after field work has been stopped. Producers have the opportunity to analyze data from completed fields or view where field work is in process, making it easier for producers to make operational decisions. Data is available to analyze from any internet-connected device to make important production decisions and give operations the ability to invoice work recently completed.

 

Set-up files and prescriptions can be transferred from the Operations Center to the 4600 CommandCenter or 4640 Universal Display anytime, wirelessly, eliminating trips to the machines’ locations and allowing for more timely completion of field operations. Modified setup files and prescriptions will not overwrite files currently on the Gen 4 Display; only modified information will be added within the setup file

The Gen 4 Extended Monitor provides a secondary monitor solution for those producers who want two monitors to manage their machine and precision ag applications on their 4640 Universal Display. Adding the second monitor allows producers in display intensive operations the ability to view and adjust more of their operations at once.

 

Leveraging the 4640 Universal Display with Extended Monitor provides the following benefits:

Enable tractor-implement communication through AEF ISOBUS TC SC compatibility

The Generation 4 CommandCenter™ display is an AEF ISOBUS compatible display.

 

An easy plug and play between implements, displays, tractors, and other products is required today in daily business. This is why within agriculture and forestry, an industry standard, ISOBUS, is used for communication between these products.

From the ag industry, the Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF) was initiated in 2008 to have a common forum among manufacturers to define the ISOBUS standard further, define and conduct ISOBUS tests, accelerate adoption, label compatible products, and to communicate this to dealers and customers. John Deere is one of the seven founding members of AEF and is very engaged in the organization.

 

To better ensure ISOBUS compatibility, the AEF developed new functionalities, i.e., auxiliaries (AUX) and Task Controller Section Control (TC-SC,) in addition to the well-known universal terminal (UT). They are also the basis for the certification of ISOBUS products. An ISOBUS functionality can be described as an independent ISOBUS product and the concept is extendable for later additions of functionalities.

 

Gen 4 CommandCenter supports the following ISOBUS features:

4100 CommandCenter and 4600 CommandCenter

  • Universal Terminal (UT)
    -> ISOBUS sprayer, seeder, planter, fertilizer spreader, manure applicator, and many other implements can be operated through the UT functionality.

4600 CommandCenter only:

  • Task Controller Section Control (TC-SC)
    -> With TC-SC, ISOBUS compliant implements like sprayers, seeders, planters, fertilizer spreaders, and manure tankers can be used with automatic Section Control.

  • Task Controller Basic (TC-Bas)
    -> With TC-Bas, documentation with ISOBUS compliant implements in the standard data format of ISOXML is possible. Also, totals like area, amount etc. are recorded directly from the implement.
